The Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Contra Costa County hosts a Poverty Simulation.

    Space is limited

    To participate RSVP: s.krank@svdp-cc.org

Please RSVP no later than July 27, 2018

What is the Poverty Simulation Experience?

The Simulation itself is a way to educate our friends, partners, young people and volunteers to the realities of life for those who are struggling. The Simulation will provide an experiential glimpse into the realities of a month in life the of our neighbors who are struggling with homelessness, food insecurity, and poverty.

    How does it work?

A poverty simulation is a guided experience that exposes participants to the realities of poverty, including the challenges of navigating the complex world of government services and other essential service providers. During the simulation, participants assume the roles of up to 26 different families facing poverty.

The scripted roles for the 26 families are like many families, young, old, skinny, healthy, not so healthy, educated, chubby, not educated. So participants of any age are welcome. (Their parents should accompany and are welcome to join in with any participants 18 and younger)

There are many ways to participate.

We have a small coalition of experienced facilitators to help guide the simulation. We need more.

Train.  For those who have participated in a simulation before and are willing to help create the experience for others, we are looking for mentees whom to be partnered to train with folks experienced to facilitate the simulation. This way we will be able to have our cadre of presenters. Once Vincentians experience the facilitation and see people begin to understand the challenges of those we serve. Please RSVP by July 13, 2018

Participate. We have opportunities for participants who will form the 26 different families who will have the chance to go through the experience. We are committed to providing the immersion for 60 people who make up these families. Please RSVP by July 27, 2018 (Unfortunately we will have to close when we reach 60 participants)

Hospitality. We also are looking for hospitality sponsors who are willing to facilitate and provide a light lunch on August 8, 2018, for the facilitators and participants. Please let us know if you are willing to by July 27, 2018, so that we can provide adequate assistance.
